Bitte nicht nachfragen, sonst bröckelt die Fassade.

I’m Fine

Sondern in diesem verzweifelten Versuch, alles kleinzureden.

„Alles gut.“

I’m fine.
Natürlich.
Sieht man doch.

"Please don't ask, otherwise the facade will crumble."

I’m Fine

In my mind, I was likely experiencing that very moment, the one where you still try to manage a smile on the outside, even though, deep within, someone has long since dimmed the lights.

There stands this little figure, thin as a frayed nerve, with a sorrowful face and a single tear, while above it, in large letters, reads: "I’m fine." And therein lies the entire pain. Not in the weeping. Not in the sadness itself. But in that desperate attempt to downplay everything.

"Everything’s fine."
The favorite phrase of people for whom, right now, absolutely nothing is fine.

The image feels like an internal compromise: I want to be seen but please, not *too* much. I want help, but please, don’t ask me for it, because then I might have to answer honestly. I want to appear strong, even though I am currently busy just trying not to fall completely apart.

And yet, even here, there is that dark humor again. This little sad creature is almost audaciously honest. It doesn’t say, "I feel wonderful." It says, "I am currently playing the role of a functioning human being, and the reviews are mixed."

Perhaps that is exactly where the truth lies: Sometimes, "I’m fine" isn’t a state of being. It is a shield. A bandage placed over a wound that actually needs to breathe. A phrase you utter so that no one notices just how loud the turmoil is beneath the surface.

But the tear gives it away regardless.
And perhaps that is a good thing.

I’m fine.
Of course.
That´s what People see..
